The Blob: Ciaran's Journal
Welcome to my journal. This is where I'll be revealing my innermost thoughts and feelings to the world. Occasionally I'll talk about other stuff, but mostly about my experiences. Oct 28, 2002: How to have two shocks in one day... (link | trackback: 0) Time: 15:45 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a Many are the words we speak, Many are the songs we sing, Many all these offerings, But now to live the life... -- Matt Redman, "Now To Live The Life" I had a shock yesterday. Actually, I had two. The first was when I woke up and came downstairs at 8:30am, switched on the computer monitor, and saw a message saying that my computer's clock had automatically updated as a result of Daylight Savings Time and would I please check to see if the settings were correct? You see, here in the UK we've just come out of BST (British Summer Time), so the clocks went back yesterday - and as a result I'd got up an hour early, at 7:30am. Of course, everyone else knew about the clocks going back and got an extra hour's lie-in. Hrmph. ;p The second shock was when I went to church to set everything up for the projections; every week, my church uses a laptop connected to a projector to display the words for the songs (which are in PowerPoint format) and I do this every other week. But the shock came when I looked for the cables needed to connect everything together - and couldn't find them. I searched quite a few places for them, and asked the person who was on the PA desk at the time, but neither of us knew where they were. I tried phoning the person who does this on the weeks when I don't, but he wasn't in. Panic! Without the cables, we'd have to go back to using the overhead projector for the service; but I'd seen earlier that morning that the photocopier was out of toner, too, so I wasn't sure whether that'd work either. I was almost ready to throw in the towel and set up the OHP when someone suggested phoning the other guy who works on the PA desk sometimes. I can't remember who suggested it, but I'm grateful to them, because the phone was answered and he knew where the cables were. Because I'd got everything else ready by that time, I was able to plug in the cables and have it working minutes before the service started. Phew. Now, the ironic thing is that the guy who was on the PA desk that day had apparently been helping to move them last week, which was the week I hadn't been at church (okay, I admit, I had laid in... sorry ;)). Nobody had kept me in the loop, and it was weird that he hadn't remembered that he had moved them last week; but at least we managed to get it all done in the end. :) And now for something completely different... It's getting close to Halloween on the 31st of October. Now, from my Christian viewpoint, Halloween is a bad thing to get involved with. So, I thought that I'd do a write-up about it and explain exactly why Halloween is not a good thing. I haven't finished it yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I am - hopefully in time for Halloween itself. See ya! [back to main screen] |
