Welcome to my journal. This is where I'll be revealing my innermost thoughts and feelings to the world. Occasionally I'll talk about other stuff, but mostly about my experiences.

Jan 30, 2002: Blarg (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 21:25 - Mood: Sad - Location: Home - Now playing: Michael W. Smith - Worth It All

Well, my other trick for maybe going to Spring Harvest failed. So now my only opportunity is to see if I can get accommodation from elsewhere, or else be a volunteer.

Or not go at all. That would be a bummer. :(

Jan 29, 2002: Banana Site (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 09:51 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

I got a bit of a chuckle this morning. I opened up my email and saw that somebody had linked to a site of mine that hasn't been updated for ages - Banana-Skin Version. They had linked to it on Banana Site, a site that lists links to sites about bananas.

But not just about bananas, no no. Even those which represent an organisation with "banana" in the name, those with pictures of bananas, or anything remotely to do with the curly yellow things. :)

She asked if I would give her a link back, so I added it as a news item on the site. I would probably have done it anyway, but there ya go. :)

BTW, for those interested, I've been meaning to move that site to an URL on this domain for some time, but I've never got round to it. I keep telling myself I will, though...

Jan 28, 2002: A new week! (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 16:42 - Mood: Not happy, not sad - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

Well, it's a new week. For some reason, I'm not as happy about this as I was for a new day a few entries back... I don't know why. It's odd.

I went to the dentist for a checkup today. My teeth were fine, but he gave them a clean as well, presumably for good measure. :)

Oh, and I figured out what that "Computer Help" reminder on my phone was. It was supposed to remind me to go to Trinity (my church - its full name is Trinity Methodist Church) so that I could go to the help sessions that I need to go through before I can operate the computer for displaying lyrics during the services and so on. I'm fairly certain I know what to do anyway, but I'm going for two reasons:

  1. I might be wrong, there might be other things that need to be done that I'm not aware of.

  2. I need to go anyway before they'll accept me.
No problem, I'm perfectly happy going to these sessions. Now all I need to do is to remember what the reminder means. :-D

Jan 26, 2002: Which LotR character are you? (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 15:40 - Mood: Happy - Location: Home - Now playing: Michael W. Smith - I Will Be A Friend

http://www.lifesupportal.com/cgi-bin/php.cgi/LOTR/intro.htm

Apparently, I'm most like Boromir. Um, okay. :)

Jan 25, 2002: Nope, he doesn't... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 22:44 - Mood: Not happy, not sad - Location: Home - Now playing: Nothing

Just spoke to my friend on IRC and unfortunately he doesn't have a place available going to Spring Harvest. Didn't think he would really, so I'm not that disappointed.

I've got another trick up my sleeve, but we'll see how it pans out.

Jan 25, 2002: Random music comments (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 16:02 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

There was a time when I'd believe in anything but You,
I closed my eyes and let You in, ready to let my life begin...

-- ZOEgirl, "Living For You"

You're probably wondering why I keep posting these lyrics at the start of my entries. Generally, the reason is that those are the lyrics that are making their way round my head at that moment. I think that what you listen to says a lot about what kind of person you are. I don't mean that the music you listen to will change what you are; in fact, I mean the reverse - what you are could change what music you listen to.

Yeah, I'm confused by what I just said as well. *sigh*

Let's try an example. I'm a Christian, and I try to listen to Christian music when I can. Within that category, there are loads of different styles - just the same as there are with any other music. The styles I like best are mostly rock and CCM (Contemporary Christian Music). I also really like praise and worship music.

Now, just because I listen to that sort of music doesn't make me a Christian. Rather, being a Christian means that my tastes have changed so that I listen to that genre of music more. Get it now? :)

Okay, that's my random thought for the day. :)

Jan 25, 2002: Kernow Youth (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 14:11 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

I just realised I haven't said anything here about a cool website I found called Kernow Youth.

It's a Christian site aimed at youth, maintained by some guys in Cornwall. I found it a few days back, and my jaw dropped after seeing just a few pages. This was one of the best Christian youth sites I had seen yet - if not the best. It now has a place in my Starting Pages category in DMOZ, which is the page that I've set as my home page in IE. Out of necessity, I don't have that many links in there, because I don't want to have to look for links that I use daily among a whole load of other ones. Therefore, it's quite something to be able to be good enough to be one I check that regularly - well done, guys! :-D

I emailed them to let them know what I think of the site, and to ask them what Spring Harvest was like (this was before I found out that I probably wouldn't be going). I got a reply from someone that we'll call Philip (if only 'cuz that's his name), which told me quite a lot, and explained quite a few things.

All in all, I'm so glad I found that site. I'm not Cornish, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. The people who made this site sould give themselves a pat on the back for a job well done. :-D

Jan 25, 2002: Just had a thought... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 12:17 - Mood: Thoughtful - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

Okay, I've had a thought. I might not be able to go to Spring Harvest with my church, but I have a friend on the Internet who also lives in the UK and who's going. I'm gonna ask him if he has any spare places at all - I hope he does.

No, I don't really expect that he does. But it's worth a try...

Jan 25, 2002: Miscellaneous stuff (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 09:59 - Mood: Very happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

Better is one day in Your courts,
Better is one day in Your house,
Better is one day in Your courts,
Than thousands elsewhere...

-- Matt Redman, "Better Is One Day"

Whee, it's another new day. I love new days - well, most of the time. I'm feeling good today. I don't know why, but I am.

Recently I discovered a huge collection of stories about customers phoning tech support who just don't seem to have a clue. It's very funny, actually. The page is called Computer Stupidities, and it's brilliant. Take a look - it may just make your day. :)

It's days like this when I just want to thank God for all He's done in my life. He's turned my life around a lot. I think He had a hand in making me feel happy today, so soon after the news that I wouldn't be going to Spring Harvest - otherwise I'd probably still be down in the dumps.

It would be brilliant to just run outside and praise Him for everything. But I don't think the guys at work would quite understand. ;-) Ah well, I suppose there's always a first time... hmm, maybe I'll try it some time when I feel moved to.

Thanks, God. You're the best. :-D

Jan 24, 2002: Just a cool song... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 19:53 - Mood: Happy - Location: Home - Now playing: Michael W. Smith - Hey You It's Me

Hey you, it's me,
True lovers are we,
Children under the sun,
Two spirits in the name of one...

Yeah! I like this song. It's the one I'm listening to right now. And it's brill. Period.

Jan 24, 2002: Optical Illusions (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 19:35 - Mood: Happy - Location: Home - Now playing: Skillet - The One

Inspired by a "crackified" (not my word) email that was obviously an incomplete optical illusion, I went looking for a page which had the complete thing. I ended up at a page called Perceptuelle illusioner (presumably "Optical illusions" in Danish). I love the first picture on that page. Weird...

Oh, and a reminder just went off on my mobile phone. It said "Computer Help". I had set it to go off at 7:30pm on the 24th, but I can't remember what for. My parents don't know either, unsurprisingly (well, it's my phone). Odd. I wonder what it could have been for? :-/

Jan 24, 2002: Famous last words? (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 17:54 - Mood: Very sad - Location: Home - Now playing: Nothing

Well, I thought I was going to Spring Harvest. But on the way back from work, Mum told me that the organiser of the trip had phoned and said that the people who I was going to be with didn't want anybody else with them, because their children weren't sleeping well.

And, of course, the organiser's probably not going to do it again next year because it's too much hassle, apparently.

Blarg.

Jan 24, 2002: Got this song in my head... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 14:38 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

Wake the neighbours,
Get the word out,
Come on, crank up the music, climb a mountain and shout,
This is life we've been given,
Made to be lived out,
So la la la la live out loud!

-- Steven Curtis Chapman, "Live Out Loud"

I've had that song in my head quite a bit recently. It's a cool song. I'll have to get one of Steve's CDs some time.

Which reminds me, I bought a Michael W. Smith album the other day, called This Is Your Time. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't all seem to be Christian songs (for example, while Hey You It's Me is one of the best on that CD, it's not what I call specifically Christian).

Oh, and I'm going to be going to Spring Harvest this Easter. I'm looking forward to it - actually, I just can't wait. But I guess I'll have to... but then, it's the same with Christ's coming, in a way. I can't wait for that either. :)

Toodles...

Jan 24, 2002: The stationwagon's back up! (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 12:53 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

...and I've also finished working on this cool, nifty journal system. It works along the same sort of lines as LiveJournal, but I made this one completely from scratch. Not bad, eh? :)

So now I've got a sort of "online diary" to record my thougts in. Not that you want to know them, necessarily, but it's the thought that counts. Or something.
