Feb 25, 2002: My weekend... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 13:35 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

There is nothing that can hold you back,
The wind has found the flame,
You are called and you are chosen,
You will never be the same...

I can see Jesus in you,
I see His love on your face,
Go in His name, and do all He commands you to do,
I see Jesus in you!

-- Twila Paris, "I Can See Jesus In You"

It's Monday again. :)

My bit on cerebral palsy went quite well last night. I was able to explain a few things about what it was like, and reinforced the point that if I didn't have it, there'd be every chance that I wouldn't know nearly as much about computers as I do now. So I thought it was good. :-D

I had an idea for a song the other night... this is the chorus that I've made up:

I wanna see, I wanna hear, I wanna praise, I want to love,
I wanna see-ee-ee Jesus!
I wanna sing, I wanna shout, I wanna lift His name up high,
I wanna see-ee-ee Jesus!

It doesn't look too great when written down, but I've got this great tune for it. But this time, I'm not going to do this one on the computer. I'm going to do it while I learn the electric guitar. I figure that this'll probably help me quite a lot in learning it, as I'll have a reason for doing it. :)

I brought my guitar and amp into the youth club session last evening too, because I wanted to show the Toms (three people who play in the same band, all called Tom), and hopefully be able to meet up some time. Nothing definite was arranged, but they're more than happy to help me learn the ropes. :)

Oh, and I also found a cool newsgroup: alt.2eggs.sausage.beans.tomatoes.2toast.largetea.cheerslove. Quite a cool place to hang out, really. :)

Overall, I think it was a pretty good weekend. :-D

Feb 22, 2002: Hmm... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 12:20 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

It's Friday again. :)

I've been thinking lately of several things. Firstly, I wondered whether it would be a good idea to add a mailing list type of feature to this journal, so that when I add an entry, it goes out automatically to anybody who's asked for it. I'm not sure though.

Secondly, I'm hungry. But that can easily be solved. :)

Thirdly, I've helped my friend Tim set up his own journal with the code from mine. I won't give the link just yet because it's not yet ready, but as soon as he gives the OK, I'll give a link.

I can't remember what else I was going to say. No matter, I'll just write another blog entry if I remember.

Blarg.

Feb 20, 2002: And Your praise goes on... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 10:01 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

And Your praise goes on,
rising to Your throne,
where You guard us while we sleep;
through the stars they fly,
Your praises fill the sky,
'till You wake us with the dawn,
and Your praise goes on...

-- Chris Rice, "And Your Praise Goes On"

Heya. Sorry I haven't written in here for over a week - I've been insanely busy over the past week with stuff, both at work and at home.

  • Firstly, I've decided to take the plunge and learn guitar. I've bought myself an electric guitar (a Squier Strat to be precise), and I've had one guitar lesson so far, last Wednesday. I've got another one tonight, which I'm looking forward to. :)

  • Secondly, I've had tons of stuff going on at work, most of it due to this product I've been talking about recently (by the way, I'm not sure whether we had a sale or not, but we probably did).

  • Thirdly, on MyRealBox, I've been approaching the 10Mb limit for emails. Since I didn't want them to start bouncing back emails, I connected via POP and downloaded all the emails to my home computer, deleting them all as I went. So now, I've got a clear inbox. On the downside, this may mean it'll take a little longer to answer emails that have been sent to me recently. Don't worry, I've still got them, but they're on my home computer rather than the main myrealbox server. Just hang on in there. :)

So, as you can see, my life has been somewhat busy lately. :)

At my church's youth group next Sunday, I'll be talking about my cerebral palsy, after Jenny (our youth leader) asked if I could. I don't mind at all - and it's a good opportunity to show how God comes through even in people like me. I daresay most people probably won't even know I've got cerebral palsy before I tell them, which will only reinforce the point - that with God and determination on your side, you can do anything. :-D

Feb 12, 2002: Mixed feelings (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 10:22 - Mood: Both happy and sad - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

Hi again. Sorry I didn't write any entries over the weekend, I've been busy.

The truth is, I fouled up and sinned. Badly.

It was on Sunday night. I'll spare you the details, but it basically stemmed from my explorations into nudism that I've been doing lately. Add to that the fact that I also got a webcam recently, and I think you can guess what I mean. I know I haven't written anything about either of this in here.

The webcam is now destroyed (by Dad). That's good and bad - good because it means I can't be tempted to use it in that way again, and bad because there were a lot of legitimate reasons I wanted to use it. But that's the price I pay, I suppose.

As for nudism... I still think nudism is an idea worth pursuing. However, Mum's firmly said that she doesn't want any study or explorations about it going on under her roof. So, it's out of the question for the moment. It's a shame, because now that I know I was on the wrong track, I would have gone at it for the right reasons.

So that's the bad news. Now for something slightly more cheerful. :) You know the software I was talking about in the last entry? Well, I needed to come in early today because it's being demonstrated, and I needed to install it (and also the Apache/ApacheJServ web server it runs on), set it all up, and test that it all worked. All in just over half-an-hour (quite fast for this particular piece of software).

I'm glad to say that I managed to do it, and everything works perfectly. I now await the results of the demonstration, and see if we managed to sell it. :-D

Feb 8, 2002: Almost the weekend :) (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 12:32 - Mood: Very happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

Jesus Christ, I think upon Your sacrifice,
You became nothing, poured out to death;
Many times, I've wondered at Your gift of life,
and I'm in that place once again,
I'm in that place once again...

And once again I look upon the cross where You died,
I'm humbled by Your mercy and I'm broken inside,
Once again I thank You,
Once again I pour out my life...

-- Matt Redman, "Once Again"

It's Friday! The weekend's almost here. I'm feeling good about myself.

You might be wondering where exactly I work. I'll tell you - I work at Delvestream Systems Ltd, a company that specialises in communications programs.

At the moment, I'm testing a program for bugs. As with any program, there are always a few, and I'm noting them down so we can fix them later. I'm also writing down cosmetic stuff, such as a button not saying what it should on it.

Why am I telling you this? Because it was on my mind. No other reason - hardly anybody reads this anyway, so it's not like I'm talking to anyone in particular. I would love it if this journal was read more and appreciated, but hey, it was only really borne out of a desire to have one on the Web in the first place. No-one could give me a LiveJournal account creation code, so I thought about making my own. And, not long after, this journal was born. I'm sure it doesn't have as many features as LiveJournal, but one good thing about programming stuff for your own use is that you can make things exactly the way you want it. No need to have more features than you use, and you can program stuff that you wish had been in other systems.

So, in other words, I'm happy with this. :) I'll be adding a feature to allow people to look up one specific entry by passing a parameter, but that's not that high on my priority list yet. Still, it shouldn't take long once I get started.

BTW, if you'd like to use this journal system for your own use, email me and we'll discuss it. Most likely, I'll let you use it. :)

Feb 7, 2002: Just a rant... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 11:41 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

Holy, holy is our God Almighty,
and holy, holy is His Name alone!
Holy, holy is our God Almighty,
and holy, holy is His Name alone!
It is You we adore,
It is You praises are for...
Only You...

-- Newsboys, "It Is You"

Whee. That song's a good one, too.

Y'know, I don't understand people who criticise Christian music because they claim it's restrictive. There's tons of different styles.

Wait, I've got deja vu. I wrote something like that on the 25th of January, in the "Random music comments" post. But I'll repeat it, 'cuz it's true: "Within that category [Christian music], there are loads of different styles - just the same as there are with any other music."

Anyway, my point is that Christian music is a genre, not a style. There are loads of different styles of Christian music - hymns, inspirational, CCM, rock, punk... you name it, Christianity has it covered. So to say Christian music is "restrictive" doesn't make sense. Rather, it's the opposite - Christian music gives you the opportunity to worship in whatever style you like. Which is nice. :-D

I haven't put any MIDI songs up on the site yet - sorry. I've been forgetting. I'll probably get round to it this weekend. :)

Feb 6, 2002: I'm tired... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 16:45 - Mood: Not happy, not sad - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

It feels like a Friday. I wish it was.

Instead, it's only Wednesday. And I'm tired. I've got a driving lesson after work today, too.

...life can be cruel sometimes.

God of wonders beyond our galaxy,
You are holy, holy...
The universe declares Your majesty,
You are holy, holy...
Lord of heaven and earth...

-- Third Day and Caedmon's Call - God Of Wonders

Sorry for using some song lyrics from the song I quoted from yesterday as well, but I just love that song.

I don't think I've told you this, but I create Christian music as well. I make MIDIs using Cakewalk Professional 6.0, and I use my keyboard to play them, and add samples if I want, which is cool. I'll upload some when I get home, if I remember.

I wish I could do the sort of thing I did last night more often. To just express a pure love for God when the Spirit fills me - it's such a great feeling, to be able to worship Him. I wonder if that's what "worshipping in spirit and in truth" means? It sure feels like that's what it is. :-D

Feb 4, 2002: You are holy, Lord... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 18:47 - Mood: Happy - Location: Home - Now playing: Third Day and Caedmon's Call - God Of Wonders

Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth,
Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth,
Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth...

-- Third Day and Caedmon's Call - God Of Wonders

Lord, I just want You to know that I love You... I love You so much.

Thank you for being with me through all my dark times. You've shown me that there's nothing You can't do. You are holy... holy...

Lord, my heart aches for You. Let me respond to that call in my life. I want to do great things for You. I pray that you'll be my source of inspiration and guidance.

Amen.

Feb 4, 2002: At *long* last... (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 16:39 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

I've finally managed to complete a section of one of my DMOZ editor tools which was bugging me for a long time. You can't tell how relieved I was when I finally got the thing fully working. :-D

Ah yes, the joys of being an ODP tool-smith...

Feb 2, 2002: 02/02/02 (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 00:50 - Mood: Happy - Location: Home - Now playing: n/a

...hey, I've got to use something for the subject. And today's date, being what it is, seemed to be a good choice. :)

And please don't ask why I'm up at this ridiculously late (early?) time in the morning. It's Saturday, I don't have to get up early. That should be a good enough reason for anybody. ;-)

I'm running my ShoutCast server, but no-one seems to be interested. Ah well.

Feb 1, 2002: Geek Code Posted (link | trackback: 0)
Time: 16:40 - Mood: Happy - Location: Work - Now playing: n/a

Well, I've now published my Geek Code on the site. Don't know what the Geek Code is? Shame on you.

In other news, I think I might have to resign myself to not going to Spring Harvest this year. Still, at least I'll know to book early next time. ;-)

I'm tired. It's Friday. Roll on the weekend...
